Frequently Asked Questions

What is unique about Sprout Labs?

Sprout Labs offers deep expertise in structured literacy and experience working with children who struggle with reading, and a range of solutions you can choose to match your client’s needs.

Structured Literacy expertise at the core. Our team brings more than 300 years of combined experience working with children who have dyslexia, ADHD, and related learning differences. Every specialist on our team is trained in the Orton-Gillingham methodology. Our assessments, curriculum, and technology are built from clinical depth.

A full range of solutions across modalities and price points. Sprout Labs offers assessment, direct tutoring, and an AI-powered app. For the families you serve, that means there is always a clear next step, whether they are waiting for an IEP evaluation, working with you weekly, or practicing independently at home between sessions.

Technology that extends clinical work with fidelity. Sprout's Reading World is powered by voice AI, and fine-tuned on thousands of hours of recorded sessions between children with dyslexia and ADHD and Orton-Gillingham trained tutors. It recognizes phoneme-level error patterns specific to children with reading struggles and adapts in real time, reinforcing your approach rather than competing with it.

How is Sprout Labs different from other reading apps?

Most reading apps are games that don’t provide the structured, sequential instruction that struggling readers need. Sprout's Reading World is different in three ways that matter clinically.

Methodological fidelity. Sprout is built on the Orton-Gillingham methodology, delivering instruction sound by sound, letter by letter, in the explicit, sequential structure proven to work for learners with dyslexia and related differences.

Engagement that drives dosage. The platform is designed as a game-based experience, and daily use is proven to be 15x more effective than intermittent practice. For your clients, that means meaningful between-session progress rather than skill decay, without you having to build daily lesson plans.

Phoneme-level voice AI. Our model is fine-tuned on thousands of hours of recorded sessions between children with dyslexia and ADHD and Orton-Gillingham trained tutors. It recognizes the specific error patterns that present in dyslexic and ADHD learners and adapts instruction in real time. For SLPs and reading specialists, this is a tool that reinforces your clinical work between sessions with genuine fidelity, not just engagement.

What happens when I refer a patient?

When you a refer a patient, using the special url we’ve provided, they’ll get discounted access to Sprout’s Learning World. They’ll fill out the form and we’ll contact them to set them up with services. We will also work with you and them to arrange for information sharing, where appropriate, so you can learn about the progress they are making and use our targeted data to shape your lessons.

Does this replace my sessions with the patient?

Absolutely not. Sprout's Reading World is designed to complement your work, not replace it.Think of it as the practice layer between your sessions. The app delivers structured, Orton-Gillingham-aligned instruction daily, reinforcing exactly what you are working on with your student, without requiring you to build and assign individual lesson plans. Your clinical expertise stays at the center. Sprout handles the repetition and consistency that drives results but is impossible to deliver at the frequency families need through sessions alone.Research is clear that dosage matters. Daily practice is proven to be 15x more effective than occasional sessions. Sprout closes that gap for your students, so when they come back to you, they are building on progress rather than recovering lost ground.

I'm not an SLP. Can I still refer patients?

Absolutely. While we have deep roots in the SLP community, Sprout Labs works with the full range of professionals who support children with reading differences. If you are a pediatrician, neuropsychologist, educational therapist, classroom teacher, special education coordinator, or any other professional who works with children who struggle to read, you are exactly the kind of partner we want to work with. If you are seeing the signs of dyslexia or a reading difference in a child you serve, we would love to be part of the support system you build around them.Referring to Sprout Labs is straightforward. We will make sure families get a warm handoff, understand their options, and know exactly what to expect. And if it is helpful, we are happy to keep you in the loop on progress so you have a fuller picture of how the children you refer are doing, with family permission of course. If you are not sure whether a child you work with is a good fit, reach out. That conversation costs nothing and we are always glad to help you think it through.

How do I know which program is best?

The right fit depends on where your client is in their journey and what kind of support they are already receiving. Here is a simple way to think about it.

Sprout's Reading World
works well for clients who need structured daily practice, are working with a specialist and need reinforcement in between sessions, or whose families need an accessible and affordable entry point to get started right away.

Assessment is a good fit when the full picture is not yet clear, when a family needs documentation to support an IEP or 504, or when you want an independent baseline before beginning or adjusting intervention.

Direct tutoring is the right recommendation when a child needs intensive one-on-one support and does not yet have a specialist they are working with regularly. And, many of the children we work with are using more than one of these together. Our team is always happy to talk through a specific case and help you figure out what makes the most sense.
